821 First Due in Grays Hill

On February 25, 2008 Burton Fire District was dispatched to 16 Smith Road for a structure fire.  Engine 821 was on detail to Grays Hill Station for medical training and was first in.  Captain Cooper reported a working fire on the first floor of a two story single family dwelling extending to the second floor.

Captain Cooper along with Firefighter John Ireland started a defensive attack knocking down the fire while next due engines were establishing water supply and RIT.  Captain Cooper and Firefighter Ireland then entered the structure and knocked down the rest of the fire while other crews searched the second floor and exterior crews set ladders for secondary means of egress and ventilation.

The fire is under investigation by Burton Fire District and Beaufort County Sheriff"s office due to multiple points of origin throughout the structure. Captain J. Still served as command.  Units on scene were Engine 821, Engine 822, Engine 824, Engine 1, Squad 851, 802, 803, 804, 805, 806.
