By Captain Jim Still
May 13, 2008 - 5:28:59 PM
Just after 2:00 AM this morning, E823 caught a fire at the Spanish Trace Apartments in the city. First arriving units from the Beaufort Fire Department reported a working fire through the roof in the office building for the apartment complex. Lt. Kevin Crouse immediately requested a second alarm.
E823 arrived on scene and reported to Command with it's crew. Initial arriving companies attacked the fire with two 2 1/2" handlines and the deck gun off E12. This blitz attack kept the fire from advancing from the recreational area and laundry room to the office areas. E823's crew eventually went to work in the laundry room and recreation room overhauling and extinguishing hot spots.
Chief Rountree, Captain Still and Lt. Ganshow assisted with the investigation. Crews spent about 3 hours on scene and the fire is still under investigation
Units on scene: E823, E12, E5, E1, Rescue 1, Tower 2, 801, 804, F1, F2, F3, F5, F9, Bft City PD, BCEMS1
