The Lady's Island-St Helena Fire District responded to a chemical spill on Sam's Point Rd and found 4 1-gallon containers broken open with an unknown substance leaking out of it. A box that held 4 1-gallon containers was found down the road from the containers, that once held hydrochloric acid. Since the substance was unknown, extreme caution was used and the Northern Beaufort County HazMat team was activated.
HazMat 1 responded from LISH and HazMat 3 responded from Sheldon Fire Dist, as well as Deputy Chief Webb, of the Burton Fire District and numerous off duty personel from Burton FD responded.
Burton FF's and HazMat Techs, Perry and Dunkle donned Class-B suits and secured the hazards in an 'overpack' drum. After the main hazards were cleared from the road, Engine Co 221 used their deck gun to wash down the road and remove any hazards present.
On Scene: Engine Co 220 and 221, Bat 22, 201, 202, 802, HazMat 1 and 3, EMS 7, BCSO, Burton FD
