Burton firefighters are not always called out to people in need of help.  Sometimes animals need our help as well.  Engine 824 was out in the Burton Fire District around lunch time when the crew observed a Hawk that was struck by a passing vehicle on Laurel Bay Road near the Shanklin Road intersection. SFF Reely & SFF Newell were able to capture the Hawk and protect it from being further run over by passing motorists. Shortly after, CPL Bush of Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Division took the Hawk and transported it to the Charleston Wildlife Refuge for Injured Hawks. The Burton Fire District was informed later that day the hawk suffered a broken left wing but should make a complete recovery.
