The Burton Fire District would like to remind you that when you change your clock for Daylight Savings, please take the time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. 79% of all people, and 80% of all children, who die in a fire will do so in a house without a working smoke detector.

Also ensure:

  • Your smoke detector is less than 10 years old
  • A smoke detector is both inside and outside bedrooms
  • A smoke detector is on every living level of your home, and at the base of the stairs
  • Your hard wired smoke detector ALSO has a battery backup
  • Your smoke detectors are 3' from corners, fans, air vents which are dead air spaces
  • If your smoke detector is on the wall, it is more than 4" and less than 12" on the wall

If you need assistance, or need a free smoke detector, Burton firefighters are available to help by calling 525-5551
