Firefighters assemble the airbag system while blindfolded
Shift 3 personnel reviewed their skills with airbags and competed against each other to complete a challenge.

The afternoon started with a "back to basics" session where firefighters reviewed the operation of the airbag equipment carried on the engines.  Senior Firefighters were then paired up with some of our newer staff for a one-on-one training session on efficient setup of the system.  Blindfolds were introduced to  facilitate good communication between the firefighters and to assure that each person is intimately familiar with their equipment.

Firefighters were then split into groups and given a challenge.  With two ladders strapped together, firefighters were tasked with raising the system to a height of 16 inches using only airbags.  With a limited number of airbags on hand, effective use of cribbing was essential to successfully complete the task.  To add a level of difficulty to the task, a full cup of water was placed in the center.  Firefighters were forced to use finess while lifting the system and if any water spilled from the cup, time was added to their evolution.

The competition between teams was intense, but the real goal of the afternoon was to encourage communication and gain efficiency working in teams.
